Entrepreneurs throughout Maine count on the Maine SBDC for technical assistance, education and resources to help build, grow and manage their businesses. Professional counselors offer individualized guidance, workshops and technical support on a wide range of issues, from accounting and finance to marketing and operations. In 2010, nearly 150 new businesses got off the ground working with Maine SBDC counselors while the recently-launched Veterans Business Initiative is helping military service members as present or aspiring business owners

MCA defines itself as a creative, passionate, and honest organization, steadfast in its advocacy for craft artists and dedicated to building a sense of unity and strength among its staff, board and members. Program goals of the Maine Crafts Association focus on: marketing opportunities, sales opportunities, business development programs, creative/artistic development programs, public education, networking, and high quality branding. Membership supports the development of professional craft artists through education, exhibition and marketing opportunities. Established and emerging craft artists benefit from the peer networking and informal mentoring that is an important component of all of MCA’s programming. Members are kept apprised of Maine’s lively fine crafts community through MCA’s e-newsletter and are listed in the online directory. Professional members can increase their visibility by adding photos, descriptive text and links to their websites. Other membership categories allow institutions, collectors and enthusiasts to participate in this dynamic community and support the goals of MCA.
